Royal Academy of Dance Silver Swans Adult ballet classes

Classes are aimed at the over 50s, however my classes can be for any adult.  Perhaps for someone who has had no experience at all or perhaps experience when they were younger, or for someone who has dipped in and out of ballet classes over the years.  I firmly believe exercise is the key to a healthier, happier and therefore more fulfilling life.  I definitely feel mentally rejuvenated and stimulated after an evening of teaching my pupils, It's also extremely rewarding to see the progress they make during their time with me.

We all have injuries from time to time, and most of the time it's hard to figure out how we’ve acquired them!......but by keeping ourselves mentally stimulated and physically mobile we can develop, strengthen, and maintain our bodies,  and therefore keep as much of our independence as possible in our later years.

What to expect in one of my Adult ballet classes.

I’m often asked for more information from people enquiring about my classes, therefore this is what to expect:-

I usually start with a simple warm-up in the centre before going to the barre. The barre starts with a few exercises consisting of bending, rising and foot flexing before moving on to our full barre warm up.  My aim it to concentrate on strengthening our feet, ankles, thighs and hip flexors, whilst subtly working on our balance, posture and in turn strengthening our core. We then leave the barre and come into the centre, where we  put into practise what we have just learned at the barre, but this time unaided!     If at any time you wish to go back to the barre for support, then this is absolutely fine, especially if we are moving on to our low jumps!

Towards the end of the class we will practise our dance, adding to it over the course of a few weeks. Once we have finally mastered it and when we are all happy, we may even film for our own viewing!
